About
For a more clinical (and accurate) explanation of who Koen Gabriëls is exactly, I invite you to check out my resume and curriculum for details.
In the far away Dutchlands, on October 19th 1988, a newly born boy was given the name
Koen Gabriëls, as agreed upon by both parents.
From a young age Koen could be found with a pencil in hand trying to put the world around him
on paper. Just like every other young child the results were anything but top-notch.
However, stubborn as he was, there was progress to be found in his work in the following years.
As any artist will probably tell you, that progress will keep on going until I'm dead.
Aside from that usual tale of 'from the day I was born I wanted to be creative', there's also something to be said about how much I enjoy reading (fantasy) novels (The apprentice, the discovery of heaven), gaming (infamous titles like Minecraft and World of Warcraft, but also lesser known ones like The Longest Journey. Did I mention I'm a huge Zelda fan?) and listening to music (You can wake me up any time of the day for some Intelligent Dance Music) as a way to kind of get lost in the moment.
However, when I want to express myself, I tend to automatically grab something pencil and paper-esque. It's always been there, and I hope it will stay there for a couple more. I love coming up with stories and the characters that inhabit them. My masters degree in animation helped me to get them to move if I would want them to. That didn't replace the more traditional means though. Despite my procrastinatory nature I have a very strong sense of duty and seek to meet every deadline that is given to me.
Aside from dreaming about giant monsters that are about to destroy the town that I am destined to protect with my awesome fireball powers, I also dream about ending up in a team-based work environment that is about creating the best possible product imaginable. In short: creating cool stuff while working with awesome people.
I think that about covers it: born in 88, has been drawing ever since, likes music, games and books as much as any other geek, and loves making awesome things!
